Marvin Gaye Hartford "Sweet Cheeks" was born on September 29, 1977 and was the 5th son born to Audrey Butler Hartford and John Hartford. Marvin was a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and received formal education in the New Orleans Public School System, attending Booker T. Washington Senior High School and was employed by Hartford Construction LLC. Marvin affectionately called “Marvin Gaye” was considered to be to a jack of all trades. Marvin had no filter on his words and didn’t care what he said, how he said it or where he said it. He was going to speak his mind. Marvin loved his family and friends. Our memories of shared experiences and escapades will no doubt be recounted with joy and laughter for many years to come. Marvin will be greatly missed. On Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 47, Marvin transitioned to Glory at his home in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife, Veronica Walker Hartford; 3 children, Mariah Hartford, Marais Hartford and Keyokie Day Hartford; His 4 grandchildren whom He adored, Hazel Walton, Zaniyah Delone, Jaia and Jayceon Blackwell; His siblings, Michelle Hartford Lawson (Craig), Myron Hartford, Michael Butler, Arvin Bullock (Niecia), Shelita Nellum, Torrie Jackson(Lamont), Johnesha Alvis and Jonah Davis ; Aunts and Uncles; Nell Butler, Eddie Hartford, Nathaniel Hartford (Phyllis), James Kieth (Penny), David Hartford (Jeanette) Lillie Mae Simmons(Elmo), Ella L Hampton, Gale Carter (Isiah), Annie Lee Jones & Theresa Hartford and Patsy McCants; In Laws; Georgiana Walker, Adrienne Walker-Ringer, Rosemary Joseph, Edward Walker, Kevin Walker and the late Andre Walker; God Children, Kiamante Bankston and Dontrelle Johnson and a host of devoted first cousins, other family members and close friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Audrey and John Hartford; three brothers, Marlon Hartford, Orvin Hartford and Johnathan Alvis; one sister, Regina Crawford; grandparents, Panella and Ulysses Butler and Estella Lee and Nathaniel Hartford Sr., other close family members and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life of Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Star of Bethel Baptist Church, 2217 Harmony Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70115 beginning 10 am.
